Tramontana's Flag

By mid afternoon, Lundy was ten miles to port. A brown slab of land under a blazing sun, it looked like a piece of toast under the grill. Under engine, into the night, Tramontana began to lurch in Atlantic swell. At dawn, surrounded by Dolphins, I turned North. Mid morning brought a couple of hours of Force 5 wind, thick fog and lumpy sea but by evening all was calm. A full moon rose over sparkling water. During my second night alone at sea, I refilled the ship's diesel tank from cans without mishap. At 7.30 am I was on 'slow ahead', inside Holyhead, trying to work out where to tie up. Sleep was high on the priority list.
