A trial voyage from Fleetwood to Whitehaven to ensure that Tramontana's new engine had been fitted satisfactorily was planned for the night of 3rd July 2017, with marine engineer Chris Dobson aboard. Amidst the frantic preparations to get the boat ready for sea I found time to walk Zeta around the long abandoned and decaying wooden boats that litter the banks of the River Wyre. We needed a reasonably calm sea for the engine test which we got. In the dark night, the engine purring sweetly, we spent hours watching streaks of intense green bioluminescence in our wake in the warm night air.
