By the dawn of the fourth day at sea I'd worked out that I might be able to get to the South Haven anchorage on the Island of Skomer, near Milford Haven. Once again I almost made it when the tide turned. Again I took a photograph to show how tantalisingly close I came before having to abandon the plan. I now faced a night sail across to Ireland. With a traffic separation scheme to work past and several ships in the night to make sure I passed, I had very little sleep. At 4 am a weather forecast gave advanced warning of Force 5 winds from the south. I was now in the Atlantic Ocean and knew I had to find shelter soon.
